Some years ago we, along with Stanford Wong, and another Craps enthusiast who owns a full size regulation craps table, conducted a controlled experiment and recording with ultra-high speed cameras to study the real-world physics of the dice as they are tossed and roll out on the felt. Build Your Own Craps Table When the dice setting bug bites you one of the first things players want to do is build some sort of practice rig. I’ve used everything from a cardboard box to an empty dresser drawer as a “practice rig,” but eventually I built a couple.
Table deck height will vary somewhat and is based on average person height. Go measure your dinner table. Mines 28.5' Based on average human size. You won't find little asian girls dealing at the Horseshoe downtown as their table is significantly highr than most tables and little small girls have to use apple boxes to deal a normal table. The sides and base of the practice table are made from one sheet of 4'x8' 3/4' plywood. It can be any type of plywood but birch or oak will make a better looking table. The top rail of ½' plywood adds strength and helps maintain shape. It can be upholstered if desired. That allows the table to be transported anywhere for casino parties, tight hallways, basements or upstairs. Most of our craps tables are built for “dice setters” so we make sure that the bounce and table dimensions are very true to the casino.

Unless I miss my guess, the poster interested in constructing his own craps table is not interested in the look of the end product but in its bounce characteristics. I would consider this a great waste of time and effort and therefore I hope I am wrong and that the poster merely wants a nice looking craps table for his home.Constructing a dice table, particularly one with a layout and felting for a particular casino is a foolish waste of time and money if it is done for any sort of dice control experimentation.

If working with wood is your hobby and you simply want a pleasant object in your basement recreation room, fine. If you think that experimenting in your basement with tossing dice is going to make you rich, spend the time and money on something that is more sensible.

That doesn't make any sense. And going by your own definition, you're just as much the contaminate as I am. Why can't you just leave it alone and it'll go away.
I get asked quite often buy my customers “how do I get the same bounce as the casino craps table”. Depending on the bounce you want I recommend vinyl for a smaller bounce of dice and for a trampoline bounce 1/8″ closed cell volara foam. Both need to get sprayed down to the plywood with no air underneath. Then stable your layout above. Many go to various casinos that have both very bouncy table top and then other have almost no bounce. The I would recommend half of the table with the closed cell foam the other half with vinyl.
